Koumas wants improved deal
The 23-year-old has been in fine form this season for The Baggies, scoring twice in a 3-0 victory over Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
With Gary Megson's men preparing for a Carling Cup showdown against Premiership giants Manchester United on Wednesday, the Welsh international is thought to want West Brom to make him the highest-paid player at the club.
Koumas is only 18 months into a four-year deal with the Black Country outfit following his move from Second Division side Tranmere Rovers last season.
The midfielder insists that conditions must be right for him to continue his career at The Hawthorns but Koumas is adamant he is not looking to leave the club.
"Things have to be right for me and my family," said Koumas.
"We are miles apart at the moment but that does not mean I might be leaving Albion. I won't.
"I am very happy here. There will be no hesitation in putting pen to paper once terms are sorted."
It is thought that Koumas wants a deal that exceeds West Brom's £1 million-a-year wage barrier in order to declare his long-term future to the club.
