Andrei Shevchenko scored the only goal of the game in a match that showed the Rossoneri's quality - although Filippo Inzaghi had one of his worst games for the Serie A side.
"It was important to win because we didn't want to go into the final game needing a result," said Ancelotti.
"We obtained what we wanted without any major trouble.
"We were surprised at the good marking across the pitch from Ajax - especially with them missing so many good players.
"Inzaghi? I have seen him play superbly in the past, but to be fair he was lacking tonight.
"In fairness he was coming back after a month out."
