Onwuachi makes Juve impression

By Nadia Carminati
After a starring role in Juventus' Coppa Italia defeat of Siena, 19-year-old Benjamin Onwuachi is being tipped to make an impact at Stadio Delle Alpi this season.

The Nigerian forward scored the winning goal in the tie and his progression to the first team does not surprise Juve youth team coach Vincenzo Chiarenza, who praised Onwuachi in the Gazzetta dello Sport.

"His best quality is that he's able to make things happen with great speed," said Chiarenza.

Onwuachi is currently on a season loan from Reggina, with the Italian champions having secured an option to buy at the end of the season.

The Nigerian youth international is in excellent form this term, having scored 10 goals in only eight youth team fixtures.

Juventus are hoping that Onwuachi can make as big an impression as his good friend Obafemi Martins, who has been a revelation for Internazionale this season.

Whilst Juventus fans may be intrigued by the emergence of a striking talent, team boss Marcello Lippi is being slightly more reserved in his appraisal.

Lippi said: "He has really good mobility, and a reasonable technique, but he has to improve in everything."

Onwuachi is clearly delighted at his unexpected first team debut and has spoken about succeeding for his family in Nigeria.

He said: "At the beginning I was emotional, but I soon settled. When I first saw the ball hit the net I experienced an incredible happiness.

"I want to be a professional to earn money for my poor family in Nigeria. When I went home for holidays I gave them money from Reggina and there was a big celebration."
