Milan confirm Rivaldo release
The move allows Rivaldo to be free to find a new club when the transfer market re-opens in January.
The 31-year-old was close to leaving the UEFA Champions League holders in September after growing increasingly frustrated at his lack of first team chances, but he had a change of heart and decided to stay on.
Things have not improved for Rivaldo as he is well down the pecking order at the Giuseppe Meazza and both parties have reached an agreement to part company.
Milan revealed in a statement that they had ended the contract, which had another 18 months to run, by "common accord".
"We thank Rivaldo for the contribution he gave to the winning of the Champions League, the Italian Cup and the European Super Cup and wish him all our luck for the continuation of his extraordinary career," read the statement.
The classy attacker has been linked with a possible move to England in January with Liverpool and Tottenham credited with an interest in him, although a return to Spain could also be an option.
