Sherwood vows to silence boo-boys
The 34-year-old has faced the brunt of the anger from the Fratton Park faithful in recent defeats at Fulham and against Leicester City.
The former Tottenham and Blackburn man says that the perfect way to turn things around would be to help Pompey to a derby win over bitter rivals Southampton on Tuesday.
The South Coast rivals face off in the Carling Cup on Tuesday and Sherwood says that a win against the old enemy would silence his critics.
"I will win the fans over," vowed Sherwood.
"They are desperate for this win and if we do it, the boos will stop."
Sherwood has the backing of Pompey boss Harry Redknapp, who is right behind the veteran midfielder.
"People have got short memories - it goes a little bit boss-eyed, you're under the cosh and suddenly you find one or two people turning on Tim Sherwood," said Redknapp.
"You don't need that - it's not as if they've been brought up on good football here for the last six years.
"It's easy when you're winning but when you go behind you need you fans, that's when the players need support.
"The boos didn't bother Tim - he's a man, a proper geezer. If you're having a scrap he's the man you want beside you. He captained Blackburn to the championship - and that's when Alan Shearer was in the side.
"When it was going wrong he didn't start hiding, he went looking for the ball. That's Tim Sherwood for you. If you're having a battle you want him on your side."
