Zacc backs Vieri

By Nadia Carminati
Internazionale boss Alberto Zaccheroni has insisted that Christian Vieri was fully fit and played well despite the club's elimination from the UEFA Champions League.

The Italian side drew 1-1 at Dynamo Kiev, a result that saw them finish third in their group and drop into the Uefa Cup.

Many had commented on Italian international striker Vieri, saying that he was not looking at his best, but the manager has insisted that was not the case.

"Vieri? Yesterday (Wednesday) he produced his best performance since I arrived here," claimed Zaccheroni.

The coach reiterated that his side performed well in Kiev, and pointed to earlier slips for their elimination from the competition.

"The only regret is the result, because when a team plays like this there should be something to show for it.

"Let's look at the really good performance that gave us further confirmation of the fact we are going in the right direction."
