Henry: I owe team-mates

Thierry Henry insists that he would not receive all the plaudits if it were not for the rest of his team-mates at Arsenal.

The prolific Frenchman has already scooped Onze Mondial's annual Onze d'Or prize, awarded for the French magazine's European Player of the Year.

The former Monaco front man is also a leading candidate to win the more coveted Ballon d'Or awarded by France Football, and Fifa's World Player of the Year prize, to hopefully add to his list of gongs.

Fifa name their winner on Monday with Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo and Pavel Nedved among the frontrunners, and Henry insists if he wins he will collect the award on behalf of the rest of the Gunners side who are often overshadowed by the scoring feats of the star striker.

Sol Campbell and Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira paid homage to Henry after Wednesday's crucial win over Lokomotiv Moscow that allowed them to qualify for the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League and Henry joked: "I have paid Patrick and Sol to say that. But they play with me. Sure, it is nice and I'm happy about it.

"And if I was a tennis player, then yes, it's all me, all me.

"But it's strange when it's a collective sport like football. Sometimes one or two individuals do come out of that group. But then I turn back and see the guy that has put me through or has been fighting for me and without him I wouldn't have been there.

"Maybe there have been one or two players in history who could say they are the team.

"Perhaps Maradona could say that. But I look around and don't see a lot of other players who can."

The former Juventus man has more than repaid the £10.5 million Gunners boss Arsene Wenger shelled out for him back in 1999 with 125 goals in that time but insists he brings so much more to the team.

Henry added: "I always try to say that a goalscorer shouldn't be only a goalscorer. When you don't score you have to help the team.

"Not only with assists but to defend well, protect the midfield and try to help out wherever you can."

Vieira is adamant Henry should win the World Player of the Year Award and sung the praises of his Les Bleus companion

He said: "Thierry is fabulous. He likes to score goals but he likes to give goals as well and that is the difference between a good and a great player.

"If it was my choice I would make him World Player of the Year because of what he has done in the national team and with Arsenal."
