Egil set for Norway return

By Jostein Jensen
Rangers striker Egil Ostenstad has admitted that he will be returning to his homeland in the summer.

The big Norwegian, who has spent the last eight years of his career in England and Scotland, is now ready to return to Norway.

Ostenstad's form for Rangers this season has been hampered by a succession of niggling injuries - with the former Southampton and Blackburn striker unable to really settle in Glasgow.

The robust forward admits: ''Celtic are now eight points ahead of us and our supporters don't like it.

''We new signings feel their anger, we get to hear it every day.

''It could have worked out better for me here as I have been missing match fitness.

''I came here for an experience and it has been. The pressure here is insane when we meet in Celtic.''

Ostenstad will move to Stavanger in the summer where he already owns property.

Although he admits interest in playing for former club Viking, the 31-year-old is reluctant to speculate too openly about his intentions. Ostenstad has a law qualification that he studied for in his first spell with the Norwegian club.

He said: ''Of course I want to play for Viking again, but the body is tired and I want to do other things as well.''

Viking director Bjarne Bernsten has admitted that the club are trying to lure their former player back to the club.

''We have had a good dialogue with Egil over the last two years and we want him to play for the club again.

''He knows that,'' Bernsten admitted.
