Spaniards eye Lyon keeper

By Patrick Haond
Lyon's back-up goalkeeper Remi Vercoutre is being lined up for a winter move to Espanyol.

Vercoutre is being tipped to leave the French champions when the transfer window reopens in the New Year due to his failure to usurp Gregory Coupet as first choice.

Coupet's recent decision to extend his contract with Lyon has merely intensified the likelihood of Vercoutre quitting Stade Gerland.

The 23-year-old is desperate for regular first-team football and may be offered that chance by Espanyol coach Luis Fernandez.

Espanyol are desperate for reinforcements in the New Year as they currently prop up La Liga, with a goalkeeper high on Fernandez's priority list.

Barcelona shot-stopper Robert Bonano was one mooted target but fellow strugglers Murcia are keen on the player.

Other potential arrivals for Espanyol remain Bordeaux defender Mauricio Pochettino and Internazionale winger Kily Gonzalez.
