Tottenham 0 Charlton 1
On-loan Carlton Cole bagged his first goal in an Addicks shirt to condemn Spurs to a 1-0 defeat and their fifth on the trot in the Premiership that leaves them well and truly scrapping for their lives as they drop into the bottom three.
Fredi Kanoute set up Robbie Keane with a neat little flick on the quarter-hour mark but the Irishman was foiled by his former international colleague Dean Kiely who saved bravely at his feet.
Jonatan Johansson was guilty of missing the game's easiest chance when Kasey Keller could only palm the Finn's initial strike back to him but with the goal at his mercy, he inexplicably put the ball wide.
Kiely had to be at his best to deny Keane's low drive and Kanoute's header as Spurs desperately tried to break the deadlock.
Kanoute again went close on the half-hour mark when he turned and let fly from the edge of the box but with Kiely well beaten, the ball narrowly sailed over.
Scott Parker cleared off his own line from a Gus Poyet header and the Uruguayan showed great technique to meet Rohan Ricketts' cross with an acrobatic volley but again the net was untroubled.
Cole was introduced for the second half at the expense of Johansson and the youngster scored his first goal in Charlton colours on 69 minutes against the run of play.
Paolo Di Canio swung in a corner from the right and the striker managed to beat everyone to the ball and power a header towards goal, with Stephen Kelly only managing to head the ball in off the underside of the bar for what was a fortunate lead.
Scott Parker forced Keller to tip over his bar from long-range and Cole somehow failed to add to his tally from two yards out when Parker drilled in a low cross from the right.
Spurs tried in vain to conjure up an equaliser but the Charlton rearguard held firm to claim another local scalp, albeit a fairly undeserved one.
