Tottenham v Crystal Palace preview

Struggling Tottenham Hotspur go into their FA Cup encounter against Crystal Palace boosted by the news that Simon Davies and Darren Anderton are both pushing for places.

Caretaker coach David Pleat can ill afford to suffer an upset against the First Division side, with Spurs having lost their last five games, dropping into the Premiership relegation zone and out of the Carling Cup.

Welsh midfielder Davies has been out since September with a hip injury but has made good progress in training over the last three weeks and could make his comeback in the match at White Hart Lane.

Former England midfielder Anderton has been ruled out of the last two games with a calf problem, but could return to add some experience to the Spurs engine room while captain Stephen Carr is expected to play after serving a one-match ban.

Johnnie Jackson looks to have done enough to secure his place on the left-side of midfield and the North London side will be hoping Fredi Kanoute will do them a favour of returning to goalscoring form before defying their wishes and jetting of with Mali for the African Cup of Nations. However, it is being suggested in some quarters that the striker will be left out of the game.

Crystal Palace manager Iain Dowie goes into Saturday's clash buoyed by his first win as Eagles boss after their 3-1 success over Ipswich Town last Sunday.

Palace have extended Sunderland goalkeeper Thomas Myhre's loan, but the shot-stopper has been refused permission to play in the competition to stop him from being cup-tied.

Cedric Berthelin will take his place in the starting line-up while Darren Powell is the only injury worry.

He is still struggling with a thigh muscle injury and will play no part in the all-London affair.
