Mahdavikia accepts Hamburg deal

By Chris Ives
Hamburg midfielder Mehdi Mahdavikia has confirmed that he will accept the club's offer of a new contract.

The Iranian international star had been handed a January 16 deadline to state his future intentions, but Mahdavikia seems to have made up his mind a few days early.

"I've made my decision. I think I'll be signing the extension," Mahdavikia confirmed at Hamburg's winter training camp in Gran Canaria.

Final details will be agreed between the player's agent and Hamburg chairman Bernd Hoffmann when the squad returns to Hamburg, but both sides are sure that the deal will be done.

"The club made him a very good offer going as far as is financially possible. I'm very happy that Mehdi has decided to stay," said Hamburg coach Klaus Toppmoller.

Mahdavikia's new deal will see him earning around ‚é¼2 million per year at the AOL Arena.
