Mauro Silva to retire after deal
Deportivo La Coruna midfielder Mauro Silva has announced he will retire from football once his new deal at the Riazor expires.
The experienced Brazilian recently penned a deal that will keep him with the Spanish until the end of the 2005 campaign.
"On June 30th 2005 I'll quit professional football, that's a fact. I'll play this season, the next one and that's it for me", the 36-year-old player said to Marca.
Speculation hinted the South American, who won a World Cup in 1994, may choose to end his career in a less demanding league.
However, despite considering stepping down the ladder, Silva decided to go out at the top and play in the UEFA Champions League.
"During the last few weeks I did think about leaving Deportivo and looking for a smaller team, but I figured out I like playing at the highest level, playing for the title in La Liga and being part of the Champions League," he concluded.
