Rae not rushing return

Rangers midfielder Gavin Rae is refusing to set a target for a return to action.

The Scottish international lasted just 34 minutes of his debut for his new club against arch rivals Celtic before being forced off with a recurrence of a hamstring injury.

He has not managed an appearance for The Gers since but is hopeful of being fit for the international friendly with Wales on February 18.

"I'm only too conscious of the fact that if I break down again, people will say I'm injury prone and I don't want that negative tag throughout my Rangers career," stated the former Dundee man.

"I need rest and I have to come back 100 percent fit so that I can prove I can cut it at this level."

The reigning Scottish champions sent Rae to Germany to see a specialist on the injury and get a specific exercise regime to strengthen the problem area.

"I'll step up my training this week and be back working flat out in a couple of weeks from now," he explained.

"The German specialist is happy that my back problem which led to the hamstring injury has been located and sorted out."
