Okoronkwo blasts Wolves

Nigerian defender Isaac Okoronkwo says that he is being denied a deserved first-team place because of a contract dispute with Wolves.

The African stopper signed for Wolves from Shakhtar Donetsk, but has made just one appearance for the club this season.

Okoronkwo only signed a one-year deal at Molineux, and he says that club officials say that they are unwilling to play him in case he leaves for another club at the end of the season.

Although he will play a major part in Nigeria's African Cup of Nations campaign, Okoronkwo says that he will not play for Dave Jones' side unless he gives in to Wolves' pressure and signs a new deal.

"Officials of the club are not happy with the fact that I only have a one-year deal," Okoronkwo told This Day.

"They have said that if I get a regular place in the side, which I deserve, bigger clubs would be aware of my qualities and they would just wait for the end of my one-year contract to sign me on a free transfer.

"I am in a pretty difficult situation at the moment. Not being able to play regularly has not been easy.

"I do my best in training sessions and the reserve games that I play in but it is not the same as playing league games.

"One just has to keep his head up and not feel depressed about the situation.

"But if things do not change soon, I may have to seek new opportunities elsewhere."
