Stuttgart land Yakin
The 27-year-old has long been tipped to move to one of Europe's top leagues and he saw a move to Paris Saint Germain collapse in the summer, but he has now been given the chance by Stuttgart.
The Bundesliga outfit have handed Yakin a three-and-a-half-year contract after they agreed a é¼2 million fee with his club Basel.
"Hakan Yakin is a player who has proved his quality for his country and in the Champions League," said Stuttgart coach Felix Magath.
"He is another building block to help establish Stuttgart as one of the top teams in the Bundesliga."
Yakin had long been linked with a move to Britain with both Liverpool and Celtic said to be interested, but now he has moved to Stuttgart - the club his brother Murat played for in 1997.
Yakin will not be allowed to play in the UEFA Champions League clash with Chelsea later this month, as he has already featured in European competition with Basel this season.
