Monchengladbach sign Maric

By Chris Ives
Borussia Monchengladbach have signed Croatian international striker Tomislav Maric from Bundesliga rivals Wolfsburg.

The 31-year-old put pen-to-paper on a six-month loan deal at the Bokelberg Stadion on Friday, with the Foals also having the option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

Maric lost his first-team place at Wolfsburg after a period of illness and injury.

He has fallen down the pecking order at the VW Arena behind Diego Klimowicz and Fernando Baiano and sought a move to enhance his chances of making Croatia's squad for Euro 2004.

Maric will join fellow new signings Ruben and German Under-21 star Thomas Broich in the Gladbach squad which resumes its Bundesliga season at local rivals Cologne at the weekend.
