More drugs scandal in Serie A
Just when the Italians thought their doping scandals could not get any worse, they did.
It has emerged that an as yet under-age Udinese player tested positive for a banned substance.
Reports claimed the player's first test returned positive for a hormone drug known as THC, after the first leg Coppa Italia quarter final match against Internazionale on January 13, but it has now been revealed the individual tested positive for a cannabis metabolite.
It follows in the wake of fellow Serie A stars Mohammed Kallon of Inter, who was recently banned for eight months for testing positive for banned steroid nandrolone, Parma's Manuele Blasi who received a six-month ban and Perugia's Saadi al Gaddafi a three-month ban for the same offence.
The player can not be named for legal reasons because of his age and the Italian Football Federation are awaiting results of a second test before deciding whether the player must face a lengthy punishment.
One positive, if their can be one, from the event is that Udinese have confirmed they will carry outs random tests of their youth players in a bid to eradicate substance abuse.
