Raul backs Real Totti bid

Raul has admitted that Francesco Totti would be 'well received' if he were to be Real Madrid's next superstar signing.

Speculation has been mounting in recent days that Los Merengues have identified the Italian international as the 'galactico' they want to bring to the club next summer, with director of sport Jorge Valdano admitting he would love to have the Roma star at El Santiago Bernabeu.

Raul has now echoed the sentiments of Valdano, and insists that Totti would find a place in any team in the world.

"Totti is a great player. He has always had a very important role, both for Roma and the Italian national team," said the Real hit-man.

"If in July we have him here (at Real) he will be well received.

"He has a lot of quality and could play in any team in the world. He can score goals and also do the unexpected."

However, Raul conceded that he would be even happier to see current Madrid idol Zinedine Zidane extend his contract until 2010, when his own deal expires.

"I would love Zidane to be here until 2010, up until when I have signed.

"He is an exceptional player and a marvellous person.

"We are all delighted with him and with his football. Hopefully we will be able to enjoy it for a lot longer.

"I hope that every year he postpones his departure."
