Rotherham 5-1 Reading

Michael Proctor scored twice on his Rotherham debut as the Millers recovered from an early setback to crush Reading 5-1 at Millmoor.

Proctor, signed on a two-and-a-half year contract on Friday as part of the deal that took Darren Byfield to Sunderland, cancelled out Shaun Goater's 20th minute penalty with a spot kick of his own, then added Rotherham's fourth goal as the visitors crumbled.

Reading were ahead when Shaun Barker was penalised for clipping Lloyd Owusu's heels in the area and Goater stepped up to stroke in his fourth goal in as many games.

The lead lasted just four minutes before Adie Williams' crude challenge on Martin Butler led to a second penalty, which Proctor smartly converted.

Rotherham then went in front on 36 minutes when Shaun Barker's long throw-in was not cleared by the Reading defence and Andy Monkhouse controlled the ball before volleying into the top corner.

Two minutes after the break, former Royals striker Butler made it three, turning in Chris Sedgwick's cross and Proctor added a fourth with a delightful chip over the onrushing Marcus Hahnemann.

Richie Barker then crowned the victory for Ronnie Moore's side in stoppage time, giving them their first win since the turn of the year.
