Valdano fires Blues warning
Rumours in Spain are continuing to persist that The Blues will move for at least one of Real's star-studded squad with Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo, Esteban Cambiasso and even Michel Salgado all having been mooted as possible targets.
Chelsea made a big push to land the Spanish international full back earlier in the year, but Salgado ultimately opted to sign a new five-year deal with Los Merengues which tied him to El Santiago Bernabeu until 2009.
However, it has been suggested in the Spanish media that the West Londoners have been back in contact with Salgado in a bid to tempt him away with a multi-million offer.
The Blues, backed by Roman Abramovich's fortunes, have already snared two Madrid stars in the form of Claude Makelele and Geremi, but Valdano insists the Russian will have to dig very deep if he wants to land any more.
"They will have to pay the entirety of the buy-out clause," Valdano told EFE when questioned about the Premiership outfit's interest in Real's players.
"I hope this club statement serves to resolve the matter once and for all.
"He who wants a so-called 'galactico' player will have to pay his buy-out clause.
"They are all players who form part of our strategy and they are footballers that Real Madrid are not seeking to sell, but maintain their prestige."
Meanwhile, it has been reported in Spain's ABC newspaper that Valdano is to have his position at the club reviewed.
It is claimed that Real president Florentino Perez, who is standing for re-election at the end of the season, wants to modernise the club's managerial structure and Valdano could see his powers reduced.
The newspaper states that Perez wants to install a new director of communications, a field in which Valdano - the public face of Real - currently plays the leading role.
