Tarnat aims to earn City stay

German full back Michael Tarnat admits he is uncertain whether his performances have been strong enough to secure a contract extension with Manchester City.

Tarnat joined City from Bayern Munich on a free transfer last summer and has been a regular performer in Kevin Keegan's side.

The 34-year-old only signed a 12-month deal with the Premiership strugglers and is optimistic of earning a fresh contract.

He concedes, however, that he does not know whether he has delivered consistently for Keegan to offer him an extension to his time at The City of Manchester Stadium.

But Tarnat feels that if he is forced to leave City at the end of the season, he will still be capable of performing at the top level in his homeland.

"I do not know which way it is going to go," admitted Tarnat.

"Manchester City will be my first port of call.

"However, I have proved I can hold my own in the Premier League and cannot see why that would be any different in Die Bundesliga."
