Rav tips Arsenal triumph

Former Middlesbrough and Derby County striker Fabrizio Ravenelli has revealed to skysports.com that he expects Arsenal to steal the Premiership title from Manchester United.

The White Feather enjoyed his spell in England and despite now plying his trade for Serie A strugglers Perugia, the former Dundee man maintains an interest in the Premiership title race.

''I still have very good memories of English football,'' Ravenelli told skysports.com.

''I think it's the right season for The Gunners. Since I saw Boro win at Old Trafford, I started to believe United will not keep their dominance.

''I wouldn't be surprised to see Arsenal overthrow them next May, as I think think the North London giants have the right squad to go all the way.''

Whilst the 35-year-old forward was full of praise for Arsene Wenger's table-toppers, he was more sceptical about the strength of Chelsea's own title challenge.

''They have outstanding players, but many of them are in their first season at Stamford Bridge and I think Claudio Ranieri will take time to build a squad out of them.

''For now, they can make a great performance one week and a horrible one the next.''

Ravenelli's own club Perugia, whom he signed for when Dundee went into administration, are currently marooned with Ancona at the foot of the Serie A table, but the veteran is still hopeful that they can stave off relegation.

''The 39 points we have at our disposal are really a lot,'' Ravenelli told the Corriere dello Sport. ''There is the possibility to play better.

''We need big concentration and big guts. I'm sure, with a win, we can change everything.''
