Megson explains Huckerby blast
The Norwich City striker took offence to the Baggies boss's remarks that money was never discussed with the player and that it was the reason for his failed move to The Hawthorns.
However, Megson has supported the former Manchester City and Leeds speedster's comments by stating money was only mentioned to his agent and not to him.
Megson decided not to pursue the signing, after hearing what Huckerby's agent said he was earning at Norwich.
"I must apologise if I have upset Darren Huckerby but I would like to explain my comments," said Megson to the club's official website.
"I was asked at my pre-match press conference on Monday why we didn't sign Huckerby and I gave the press the truthful answer.
"Darren's quite correct - I didn't speak to him about money.
"I spoke about money to his agent who had previously been quoted in the papers as saying Darren wouldn't sign for Norwich, hence our interest in his services.
"Again, Darren's quite correct in saying the move didn't fall through because of money. Actually, it was a complete non-starter as far as our football club is run.
"I could not and would not have one player earning way in excess of all the others whilst trying to achieve the same collective goal.
"Once Darren's agent told me the deal he was getting at Norwich, I asked my chairman not to pursue it any further.
"I found Darren's comments about the way I coach and manage players ill-informed because I have never coached or managed him.
"I didn't wish to fall out with Darren over this issue but I will not have this attack on myself and this football club without pointing out that I view it as completely and utterly groundless diatribe.
"Once again, I apologise if in telling the truth I have upset anyone at Norwich because this wasn't my intention. I hope, if we go up, they go up with us - but certainly not instead of us."
