Zickler considered quitting
The former German international suffered a recurrence of a broken shin in a comeback game for Munich's reserves and the player has conceded that he was so exasperated with his injury woe that he considered quitting football.
''I thought about giving up,'' Zickler confirmed to Bayern's official website.
Despite his current despondency, after consultation with manager Ottmar Hitzfeld, Zickler has decided to continue and draw inspiration from Austrian ski-star Hermann Maier.
''But, I have been through so much already that I'm not going to throw the towel in now,'' continued Zickler.
''There is no way I want to end my career at this point.
''I'm impressed by Herman, just like him my aim is to achieve the impossible.''
The 30-year-old, who has endured an injury-plagued career, is to receive medical treatment from the Salzburg-based doctors who treated Maier after he broke his leg in a serious motorcycle accident.
