Betis blast Assuncao whispers

Real Betis have denied rumours that Brazilian midfielder Marcos Assuncao could be on his way to Atletico Madrid this summer.

Reports emanating from Italy had suggested that the former Roma star had been offered to Atletico 'through intermediaries', but Betis technical director Maunel Montparlet has rubbished the story.

"It's nothing about nothing," Montparlet declared.

"We are offered many players here, but this about Assuncao and Atletico Madrid does not have any type of foundation.

"What's more you must remember it is about a player who is under contract at Betis.

"Therefore, quite simply, no."

Assuncao is still attempting to regain full fitness following a serious ankle injury he picked up last November.

Although the South American has subsequently been absent from the 'verdiblanco' first team for some time, he is still regarded as a hugely important player at the Seville-based club.
