Reuter to stay with BVB

Borussia Dortmund's veteran defender Stefan Reuter is committed to ending his prolific career this summer and plans to join the management team of the German giants.

The 37-year-old has given sterling service to Dortmund and is keen to sign out on a high.

"I will end my playing career as long as people see that I am still fit," declared Reuter following Dortmund's 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Hailed for his versatility and his impressive pace Reuter is one of Germany's most successful players of the past 20 years, having won the World Cup in 1990, the European Championship in 1996, the UEFA Champions League title in 1997 and five Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich and Dortmund.

Reuter made his Bundesliga debut for Nurnberg at the age of 17 and enjoyed a successful spell with Bayern Munich in the late 1980s before he left the country for Juventus, after helping Franz Beckenbauer's side to lift the World Cup in 1990 following their 1-0 win over Argentina.

Then Dortmund coach Ottmar Hitzfeld lured Reuter back to Die Bundesliga in 1992 and the hard-working defensive midfielder quickly became one of the core figures when the Westfalenstadion crowd cheered two German Championships in 1995 and 1996, before the black and yellows sensationally pipped Juventus for the Champions League trophy the following year with an impressive 3-1 win at Munich's Olympic Stadium.

The veteran, who is nearing 500 Bundesliga appearances, is keen to stay in football, but has not decided which position he will take at Dortmund.

"It's my wish to stay on with Dortmund and we'll surely agree on my future job," stressed Reuter, who played 69 times for his country.
