Menez stays at Sochaux

Sochaux starlet Jeremy Menez has snubbed the overtures of Manchester United and Arsenal to sign a professional contract with the French club.

Manchester United and Arsenal have been linked with moves for the highly-rated 16-year-old after watching him in action on several occasions.

Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson is also reported to have travelled to Paris to meet Menez's father to try and steal a march on his rivals for the teenager's signature.

Menez is regarded as one of the brightest prospects to come out of France in recent years and Sochaux were determined not to see him walk out on the club.

Sochaux president Jean-Claude Plessis admitted there was no possibility he would have considered selling the talented youngster.

"It was out of the question to negotiate. I don't work to educate young players to sell them," said Plessis.

"In no way will he go to Manchester. That would mean I would sell my soul.

"Jeremy gave me his word and I got the agreement of his father. We will go to Paris on Tuesday night to sign the documents."

The club confirmed that the French youth international has pledged his future to the club by penning a three-year deal which will disappoint all of his admirers.

"A professional contract of three years was proposed to him which would make him the youngest professional footballer in France," said a statement on the club's official website.

"The player and his parents have given their agreement for this very advantageous deal for a boy of this age.

"Despite the insistence in the market of certain intermediaries, FC Sochaux-Montbeliard are in no circumstances prepared to negotiate the transfer of a young player."
