Luzhny calls time on Ukraine

Wolves defender Oleg Luzhny has confirmed that he has quit playing international football for Ukraine.

The former Arsenal stopper is in the veteran stage of his career and has decided that it would be better to hang up his international boots.

The 36-year-old says that it is now time for the younger generation to prove themselves on the international stage.

Luzhny has insisted he will not be staying on as a coach and that he has come to the end of his association with his national team.

"I came to Kiev before the game against Macedonia to talk to Oleg Blokhin," said Luzhny.

"There is no sense in me playing for the Ukraine national team.

"I am 36, we have many young and talented players who should develop.

"I am also not planning to join the Ukraine coaching staff. It is filled up now."

Meanwhile, young goalkeeper Adam Federici has left the club and joined Italian Serie C1/A side Sassari Torres.
