Wright hails son's England call
The Manchester City starlet was one of five new faces in Sven Goran Eriksson's squad for the friendly clash with Sweden, and Wright believes it is just reward for the youngster's excellent displays this term.
"This is a fantastic achievement and exactly what he deserves," stated the former Crystal Palace and Arsenal legend who was capped 33 times by his country.
"As a dad I am so proud. He's done it all of his own back and deserves tremendous credit for it all.
"He has worked hard to improve his game and now I hope he gets a game against Sweden to cap it all off."
Wright feels his son will go on to be a fixture for England in future years, and even feels he has an outside chance of making the squad for Euro 2004.
"Shaun has had a game plan from the beginning and is being rewarded for all his hard work - and he's good enough to stay in the squad."
Meanwhile, Aston Villa defender JLloyd Samuel - who also received his first call for the game with Sweden - believes he too could force his way into Eriksson's plans for the summer.
"All I can do is keep trying to improve at Villa and hope that what I do gets me noticed," he told Villa's official website.
"It might be late in the day, but you never know, there could be a chance to get into the Euro 2004 squad."
