Amoroso facing Dortmund exit

Borussia Dortmund have told Brazilian striker Marcio Amoroso that they want to dissolve his contract at the Westfalenstadion.

The temperamental star has had several run-ins with the club's management since arriving from Parma in 2001 and has spent most of the current season in his homeland after suffering a knee injury after just four games.

Dortmund's general manager Michael Meier confirmed on Tuesday that the club have made Amoroso an offer to release both parties from his current contract that is valid until 2005.

"Borussia Dortmund have no interest in keeping players who show such a lack of respect for their employers in the way that Marcio Amoroso has done in recent times," Meier said, referring to a series of comments made by the 29-year-old striker in the past months.

"I am confident that we will agree the final formalities in the next few days," Meier added.

Amoroso, who is a firm fan favourite at the Westfalenstadion despite his escapades, has netted 28 goals in 59 Bundesliga appearances for the Schwarz-Gelben.
