Nesta eyeing return

Milan defender Alessandro Nesta prognosticates a return to action against Modena on Sunday.

The Italian international has been sidelined in recent weeks with a leg injury he suffered in a match against Juventus but is hopeful scans on Wednesday will give him the all-clear.

"I feel quite good," confirmed the former Lazio star. "I predict to be back for Sunday's game.

"I will undergo scans on Wednesday to see how things are progressing and on Thursday, I hope to be back training with my team-mates."

Nesta has been left out of the Italian national squad to take on Portugal this week but is sure to be a pillar of the Azzurri defence come the Euro 2004 finals in the summer.

One player who may line up alongside him is Rossoneri team-mate Paolo Maldini, with coach Giovanni Trapattoni waiting for the right time to call the veteran stopper for one last hurrah.

"Paolo knows it would give all of us great joy to see him back for Italy. But the final choice must be his and no one knows better than him if he is capable," added Nesta.
