Bayern keen on Hashemian

Bundesliga club VfL Bochum have confirmed reports that Bayern Munich are keen to seal a deal for their Iranian striker Vahid Hashemian.

The German giants have indicated that there will be a degree of squad rebuilding in the summer and it now appears that Hashemian could be lining-up at the Olympiastadion next season.

Bochum official Dieter Meinhold has stated that the club would like to keep Hashemian but concedes that they would be powerless to stop him moving should Bayern table a bid.

''Uli Hoeness has called and told us that they want Vahid,'' confirmed Meinhold.

''We'd like to keep him and want to extend his deal, but if a club like Bayern are interested, we are unlikely to succeed.''

The striker, nicknamed the 'The Helicopter' because of his ability in the air, has scored 12 goals this season and has a stipulation in his contract that allows him to leave if a club offers just ‚é¼2 million.

If Bayern do seal a deal for Hashemian, then it is believed unsettled Peruvian international Claudio Pizarro would be allowed to leave the Olympiastadion.

Pizarro has failed to live up to expectations since an ‚é¼8 million move from Werder Bremen in 2001.
