Rui Costa remains on stand-by

Milan ace Manuel Rui Costa has paid tribute to the man who is keeping him out of the side - Kaka- but revealed he is ready to step into the breach when called upon.

The Portuguese playmaker has been left to kick his heels on the bench as Kaka has established himself in Carlo Ancelotti's starting XI.

"The Brazilian is simply extraordinary," said Rui Costa. "I am well aware of the fact that I have a player ahead of me who will win the Golden Ball one day.

"It is obviously not pleasing to be left out of the side but I'm just looking to be ready when called upon.

"I just hope that the fans are aware of my positive attitude."

The former Benfica and Fiorentina star knows Milan must keep their focus as they enter such a crucial stage of the season as they challenge on two fronts - Serie A and the UEFA Champions League.

"Matches are still decisive and especially will be those during the last two to three weeks.

"At this moment we see the calendar and we eye the opponents. But we know that we depend only on ourselves, we have a really good advantage, if we keep out concentration."
