Lundekvam shocked at goal

Southampton defender Claus Lundekvam has revealed his shock at finally scoring his first goal for the club in the 4-1 win over Wolves.

The Norwegian international broke his duck after 296 appearances for The Saints and he was delighted to find the net at last.

"It was fantastic to score after 7-8 years," Lundekvam told TV2 Nettavisen. "It felt like a shock."

"I have waited for this and it was wonderful that it happened today (Saturday).

"The goal was a tap-in from short-range, after a free kick from (David) Prutton."

"There has been a bit of stick about this, but I haven't been bothered after all not to score that is my job."

"I'm a man for the big occasions, this was my 250th league game for Southampton."

Lundekvam revealed he expects to end his career with Southampton.

The central defender has a contract until 2007 and Lundekvam feels that will be the right time to hang up his boots.

"Then will also be about time to retire," added Lundekvam.
