Xavier to end Hannover spell

Former Liverpool and Everton defender Abel Xavier has been told he is surplus to requirements, just three months after signing for Bundesliga club Hannover 96.

The much travelled utility man was brought to Hannover in the January transfer window by then coach Ralf Rangnick and has struggled to settle ever since.

Rangnick questioned the former Portuguese international's fitness and dropped the player to the bench after four disappointing Bundesliga starts.

Following Rangnick's departure from the AWD-Arena, new coach Ewald Lienen arrived at a similar conclusion and has thus far refused to play Xavier.

The coach has informed the player that he has no future with the Bundesliga strugglers, with negotiations having already begun regarding the termination of his contract.

It is expected that Xavier will leave Hannover within the next few days.
