Curbs: No contact with van Bommel

Charlton Athletic boss Alan Curbishley admits he has had no contact with in-demand PSV Eindhoven midfielder Mark van Bommel.

The Holland international was reported to have claimed The Addicks were keen to snare his services in the summer.

Fellow Premiership sides Aston Villa and Tottenham are also believed to be interested in snapping up the industrious midfielder.

German outfit Schalke have previously been understood to be favourites to secure van Bommel at the season's end, with PSV virtually resigned to losing their skipper.

Charlton may be in a position to offer van Bommel European football next season but Curbishley is unaware of the speculation surrounding his alleged interest.

He admits that with a £16 million transfer kitty to spend in the summer, he is likely to be linked with a string of available players.

"I don't know about that," Curbishley told Sky Sports News in response to the van Bommel claims about Charlton's interest.

"He's been linked with a lot of clubs, certainly I've seen Spurs linked with him but I've had no contact with the boy so I don't know where that has come from.

"I've not had too many phone calls over the years from agents offering players because they know we were not in that market.

"But at the moment they know we've got some money so I think the chairman is waiting for phone calls."
