Aimar sad for Maradona

Maradona is currently in hospital and on an artificial respirator as he battles heart and breathing problems.

"For all the Argentinians that love football Diego is like God for us. Knowing that he is going through a very difficult time makes us all very sad," said Aimar.

"I feel sad for Diego because while he is great player he is also a great person."

Aimar revealed fellow Argentine defender Mauricio Pellegrino has been keeping him up to date with Maradona's condition.

"Pellegrino was the person who told me about what was happening to Diego," he added.

"I hope that he gets well as soon as possible. I really don't know how he has got in this situation. Each one of us live our lives in the way we want.

"We've all enjoyed a lot what Diego did in football and each time that something happens to him I feel sad."
