Pahars glad to be back

Southampton's Marian Pahars says he thought that his football career might be over during the year he spent battling persistent groin and ankle injuries.

Pahars was plagued by the two problems and his failure to complete recover led to increasing frustration.

The Latvia international playmaker says that he even thought that he would never get back onto the pitch at one stage.

However, he has battled back bravely and is now playing again and trying to establish himself under new Saints boss Paul Sturrock.

"To start playing again after being out for so long is fantastic for me," said Pahars.

"It has been very frustrating.

"I'm glad I'm still playing because at some stage I thought it might be over.

"But I kept battling and here I am trying to establish myself in midfield."
