Nikolaidis to hang up boots
The Greece international plans to feature for his country in this summer's Euro 2004 showpiece, before hanging up his boots.
The 30-year-old joined Atletico from AEK last summer on a one-year deal - with an option to extend it for a further year - and has proved a hit at the Vicente Calderon before a hernia injury interrupted his season in December.
Los Rojiblancos were keen to offer Nikolaidis a new contract, but the hit-man will now turn his back on the game to help save AEK who are in huge financial trouble.
The club have reported debts of around £60 million, but Nikolaidis is part of a consortium who plan to buy the Athens-based outfit from English company ENIC - who are the major shareholders at Tottenham amongst other clubs - in a é¼300,000 (£200,000) takeover deal.
