Inzaghi Euro 2004 threat

Filippo Inzaghi is to undergo an operation this week that places his participation in Italy's Euro 2004 campaign under threat.

The Milan marksman has a foot problem that has already kept him out of Italy's friendly with Spain this week.

Although the medical opinion recently was that the injury was not a "grave matter", Inzaghi will go under the knife on Wednesday in a bid to cure the troublesome area.

There is the genuine fear that the experienced hit-man, a certainty if fit to make Giovanni Trapattoni's final squad of 23, could miss the summer's eagerly-anticipated event in Portugal.

The problem seems to be with his ankle and the initial plan was to delay surgery until after the tournament.

"With Milan's doctors, we decided to make an intervention as soon as possible, due to the fact that there are important matches for Milan and the European championship." Inzaghi told Milan's official website.

"I'm sorry but it's the only possible solution.

"I want to clear this up and my first and only thought is to heal so I can be more happy on the pitch."
