Van Buyten could return

Manchester City manager Kevin Keegan has revealed Daniel van Buyten could yet kick another ball for the club, despite a suffering a season-ending injury.

The Belgium international defender, who last played for the club against Leeds United back in March, has been absent ever since he sustained a groin problem in training.

Keegan has revealed the on-loan stopper is able to do some running and training, but it is too early to know if he will be able to play in their final matches of the season.

"He can do some light running now and some ball work," explained Keegan. "Whether he will be able to come back and play a game or two, we will have to wait and see.

"If it's possible, it would be fantastic. Daniel is a great character, who was a big influence in the dressing room when he was here. And he was great at the back for us."

Meanwhile, Keegan has stated the players will not be having a day off until the end of the season after some extra rest was blamed on their home loss to Southampton.

"We will not have another day off between now and the end of the season," he added. "We will work everyday.

"We made a decision to give the players a rest so they could recharge their batteries, but we got it thrown back at us in some ways.

"We had a poor performance against Southampton and the excuse was that we had two days off."
