Warnock confirms Liddell interest

Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock has confirmed an interest in signing Wigan Athletic striker Andy Liddell.

The Latics front man is also being pursued by Preston manager Craig Brown and Bristol City, but Warnock is ready to throw his hat into the ring.

"I've always liked Andy Liddell," he told Sky Sports News.

"It's not a big surprise.

"I want a few more goals from different areas and Andy has got qualities but you only get to hear about the leaks.

"There are other possibilities in that position.

"If the board can give me some help (in the transfer market), then great, they want to do well and it's a team effort.

"We're trying to improve every year without going into silly debt."

Warnock also explained that Stuart McCall may still be involved on the playing side next season.

"You write McCall off at your peril," he added.

"He's such a good pro and he'll be trying to get into the team in pre-season."
