Kampa pens Gladbach deal

Keeper Darius Kampa has ended his ill-fated spell at Nurnberg and signed a contract with Borussia Monchengladbach until 2006.

The 27-year-old earned a fine reputation over the years, but lost his job to Raphael Schafer after a bust-up with the club president saw him falling out of favour under Wolfgang Wolf.

"Darius has already proved himself in the Bundesliga. He had several other offers and I am very happy that we finally got him," declared Gladbach's director of sport Christian Hochstatter.

Kampa will replace Swiss international Jorg Stiel, who seems close to agreeing a move to Grasshoppers after being told that his contract with Borussia would not be renewed.

As second-choice keeper Claus Reitmaier is also forced to leave Holger Fach's team, Gladbach are expected to sign another keeper in the coming weeks, with Sparta Prague's veteran Jaromir Blazek and Banik Ostrava's youngster Jan Lastuvka favourites for the job.
