15 clubs keen on Thirlwell

Released Sunderland midfielder Paul Thirlwell has 15 clubs interested in signing him.

The tough-tackling Black Cats man fractured his skull in the reserves towards the end of last season but that injury should not cause any long-term problems for the player and he has no shortage of suitors.

Swindon Town are one of the teams on his trail after Thirlwell spent some time on loan at The County Ground earlier in his career.

"I have spoken to him and he said he had 15 options," Town boss Andy King told Swindon's official website.

"He has been playing for Sunderland but, if he leaves that level of football as a young lad, then he may have other options.

"Thirlwell said he would look at it but he does have other options."
