Pugh seals Leeds move

Danny Pugh has finalised his move across the Pennines from Manchester United to Leeds United.

The left-sided player, who can perform at full back or in midfield, has signed a two-year contract with the relegated Yorkshire outfit.

The move is part of the deal that took £7 million striker Alan Smith to Old Trafford but carries none of the controversy that has followed the England forward's switch.

New Leeds boss Kevin Blackwell was delighted to wrap up the signing, with some reports claiming he rejected the chance to acquire David Bellion and asked for Pugh instead.

"Danny is a young up-and-coming player who I was aware of," Blackwell told Leeds' official website. "He has the hunger to do well that I want to bring to this club.

"He can play in a number of positions and that could prove very useful to us.

"I have already mentioned that bringing him in allows us to fill that left-hand side and move James Milner, a right-footed player, to the right wing or even up front."
