Gers face fight to land Novo

Rangers face competition from England for Dundee striker Nacho Novo, as SPL champions Celtic prepare to enter the bidding war for the Spaniard.

Novo seems destined to leave Dens Park during the summer, with his likely sale expected to boost Dundee's dire financial plight.

Ibrox giants Rangers are already believed to have had a £250,000 offer for Novo rejected, with Dundee informing their fellow SPL side of the forward's price tag.

But two clubs from England - one in the First Division, and one from the Second Division - are also keen on acquiring the 25-year-old.

Rangers' fierce rivals Celtic are also closely monitoring the situation after Dark Blues chief executive Peter Marr confirmed the interest in Novo.

He also acknowledged a decision on the hit-man's future would not be taken until discussions with manager Jim Duffy (pictured) and the club's administrators.

"They (Rangers) got a bit of a fright when we told them what we want for the player," said Marr.

"He's the second top scorer in Scotland and we're sure he'll move on and the club will be suitably rewarded.

"There's been an enquiry from an English First Division club but no firm offer at the moment.

"Once Jim returns this weekend we will speak to those who are interested along with Tom Burton, the administrator."
