Werder do the double
The Weserstadion outfit, who surprised many by dethroning Bayern Munich to win the Bundesliga title this season, were too strong for their German second division opponents in Berlin's Olympic Stadium.
Thomas Schaaf's side took the lead on 31 minutes when Tim Borowski (pictured) latched on to a Fabian Ernst pass before slamming his shot home for 1-0.
Ivan Klasnic then doubled the Bremen club's lead just before the break with a low-angled drive from inside the box for a 2-0 half time lead.
Alemannia then made the DFB Pokal final an interesting contest when former Werder player Stefan Blank pulled one back six minutes after the break with a superb header.
However, with a quarter of an hour left, Alemannia's cup chances were then dented as midfielder George Stanley Mbwando was sent off for a dangerous tackle on Borowski.
Nine minutes later, Borowski made the Pokal title safe with his second goal of the match before Dutch striker Erik Meijer scored a late second goal in time added on for Alemannia, as the match ended 3-2 to Werder.
It is the Bremen club's fifth German Cup title and they become only the fourth side to win the German league and cup double.
Despite the defeat, Alemannia will enter the Uefa Cup next season on the strength of reaching Saturday's final.
