Ronaldo blasts fat jibes

Angry Brazil striker Ronaldo has hit out at his critics who have lambasted the Real Madrid star for being overweight.

The brilliant striker revealed he is tired of being called fat in the Brazilian media ahead of Wednesday's World Cup qualifier with Argentina.

Ronaldo is fed up with the criticism and is focusing on helping his side get a positive result against Argentina.

"It's always the same,' Ronaldo told the Estado News Agency. 'If I don't score goals, it's because I'm fat. If I score, it's because I've lost weight.

"My ideal weight is 88 kilos, I don't know how much I weigh at the moment and I don't really care.

"All I really want is to help the team against Argentina."

Brazil host Argentina in a World Cup qualifier in Belo Horizonte on Wednesday and coach Carlos Alberto Parreira expects a tough test from their arch-rivals.

Despite being without the likes of Roberto Ayala, Juan Roman Riquelme and Andres D'Alessandro through injury and suspension, Parreira knows Argentina will provide a real test.

"Argentina will always be very well represented and is always a powerful team besides that they cannot count on some players," said Parreira.

"If they can't use some players because they are injured or suspended I am sure that they can replace them with other very good players.

"They can maybe have some co-ordination problems but Argentina is a national team that we always have to respect."
