Kvarme set for Sociedad exit

Real Sociedad defender Bjorn Tore Kvarme is set to leave the Spanish side when his contract expires this summer.

The 32-year-old will not be offered a fresh deal at Estadio Anoeta and will be looking for pastures new come the end of June.

New Sociedad boss Jose Maria Amorrortu, who replaced Raynald Denoueix, does not see the Norwegian in his plans for next season.

French stopper Jeremie Brechet has recently arrived at the club and Amorrortu prefers the 24-year-old to Kvarme.

The former Rosenborg stopper joined Real from Liverpool in 2001, and was a key figure in their thrilling challenge for the title that went down to the wire in 2002/03 - just finishing second to Real Madrid.

He has been a regular with the Basque side ever since joining but they struggled somewhat last season and Kvarme will be looking for a new employer.

The Scandinavian has had several approaches already but is biding his time before making a decision on what will probably be his final move.

Meanwhile, Sociedad are still keen on signing Mikel Arteta from Rangers, although they admit the negotiations with the Scottish side will be difficult.

The Spaniards want to seal a deal to buy half of Arteta, in a deal similar to that they used to buy Darko Kovacevic, but they admit it will be difficult.

"I would like it if Arteta was our next signing," said Sociedad president Jose Luis Astiazaran.

"The negotiation with Glasgow will be complicated. The player has a good interest in coming here and we want the best players in out team."
